About RankinWorld

RankinWorld is a platform for country comparisons in different shapes and forms aiming to be easy to use and still provide reliable and insightful information. The goal is to use only the most trustworthy data sources available to the public, like the World Bank. The site is still in development and more features and data sources will be added in the future.

At the moment, the site consists of two main features:

Country comparisons offer a convenient way to directly compare two countries against each other. Just select two countries, select the indicators you want to compare or stick with the default ones and see how these countries compare to each other in every indicator.

The interactive comparison map allows you to explore the data and compare countries in a more visual and all-rounded way. For any set of selected indicators the website will calculate average rank for this set per country, convert these averages to a 0-100 scale where 0 is the worst (if the country is ranked last in every selected indicator) and 100 is the best (if the country is ranked 1st in every selected indicator), and color every country accordingly from red to green. The ranking takes into account the fact that for some indicators more is better, like GDP per capita, and for some less is better, like infant mortality rate. Every single indicator has been individually assessed in this regard to make sure countries are ranked properly.

Unfortunately, this also means that a lot of indicators are not available for selection since it's impossible to definitively say which way to rank the countries in, like inflation rate - both very high and very low values are bad for the country. In the future I will likely add a separate section for such ambiguous indicators to at least be usable in the Country Comparisons section for informative purposes, but for now they're just not visible.

If the country is missing data on a selected indicator, it doesn't influence its average rank, but if amount of missing data in the set becomes significant, the country's color will become more and more discolored to reflect uncertainty. As a logical conclusion of that concept, if the country doesn't have data for any of the selected indicators, it will show as white.

You can also hover and/or click on a country to see more details and some aggregated statistics for that country regarding the selected indicator set, including amount of indicators with data out of total selected, value of the best ranked indicator, etc.
